How To Begin Your Webpage or Website

There are many free webpages available on the Internet. I have a whole lot of free pages in my linkware section that you are welcome to use - see the links below. There is nothing to compare with making your own custom built website though. To do that you will need to learn very basic HTML and that is what I aim to show you in these tutorials so that you can make your first webpage to your own design. When you finish your page, use your Internet Browser to open it. I strongly recommend Internet Explorer as it will cope with more than some other browsers. If you don't have it never mind as most things will show up without any problem. You will need several things to have a successful website. Firstly you must have an Internet connection and Internet space to store your pages. Your ISP will have space for you which is usually around 50MB which is ample for a smallish website. There are many places that you can have free webspace such as Yahoo's Geocities and Bravenet. These usually have pop-up advertisements on the free sites but for a small fee you can get rid of these. Use your own ISP's space if you can. Their website will provide you with all the details you need to send up your webpages but we will cover that in a later tutorial.

What you will need to download:

Crimson Editor - this is a text editor that you will need to write your coding for your webpage. You can get this small and important program here:Crimson Editor

CoffeCup FTP - This is a valuable and free little program that enables you to send your webpage up to your storage space on the Internet so that it can be viewed by other people. You can download it free from this url:CofeeCup FTP

When you have all these materials we can start our first tutorial but first make absolutely sure that you keep all your items for your website in one directory box. Make other boxes for the individual pages inside of the main box. To make directory boxes simply right click your mouse and choose 'New Folder' and then rename it to whatever you wish to call it. You do this by right clicking your mouse again and choosing 'rename'.

On to the tutorials then - I shall be adding as frequently as I can but meanwhile practice with the ones available so that it becomes second nature to you.

N.B.        You will note that when using HTML all the code words are in the American English and Not English English. This is doubtless because many of the programs we need are American made. If for instance you spell colour as we do in England 'colour' your coding will not work. The same with 'center' - 'centre' will not work.
